Before, I only paid once a day. If a plaintiff came in on the day of payment I should pay direct. There were only a few cases of this. This was only in
the case of distraints, not for executions. The person receiving payment signed a receipt on the front of the file. (Produces specimens) I did not know everything should go to the Suitors Fund. The Registrer and Deputy Registrar did not know of my doing this. Mr. Hill knew.
Did you notice whether there were inventories
with the distraints files.
Sometimes I saw inventories on files. It
was the bailiffs business. (Witness I think means
that he didn't always notice not his job).
The Auditors investigations show that you paid to your private bank account certain moneys
received by you as shroff S.C. and that you subse- quently repaid such moneys to Government.

Why was this done?
It was for my convenience. I have to advance
to the watchmen for a few hundred dollars for the
month for watchmen's fees from the daily collections
and close the books to see the actual amount of money.
Then I gave my cheque. I had a lot of work to do at
the end of the month.
Persons taking out distraints pay $8.55 for
watchmen's fees. Were those the moneys paid to your a/c?
